The students of the Artthalies Theater Workshop present one of Alejandro Casona’s most important and beloved plays, “Trees Die Standing,” in a production that takes on a special charitable character this year.
A deeply human, tender, moving, yet humorous play that confronts us with a timeless question:
Is a harsh truth always preferable, or are there moments when a beautiful lie, born of love, can serve as a refuge?
At the center of the story is an elderly woman who has been waiting for years for the return of her beloved grandson. Around her, an entire theatrical reality takes shape—an illusion crafted with love, with the sole purpose of restoring her joy and hope.
But when reality intrudes uninvited, the characters are called upon to confront the truth, loss, and, above all, human dignity.
A performance that becomes an act of giving
Art and theater lie at the very heart of Kasona’s work as a way to bring joy and hope to people.
This is the message that Artthalies wanted to convey this year, even beyond the stage.
A portion of the proceeds from the performances will be donated to support the needs of the Municipality of Rhodes’ Senior Citizens’ Centers (KAPI), through the Department of Senior Citizen Services.
The ticket price remains at €8 so that the performance is accessible to as many audience members as possible and so that, together, we can all support this effort.
Because this time, every seat filled in the theater can mean something more.
