For forty-two years now, the SYMIAC THEATER of the Association of Symians of Rhodes “O GLAUKOS” has been one of the most important institutions of Symian culture, keeping alive not only a love for theater but also the Symian dialect itself, its unique sense of humor, and the very soul of the island.
This year’s production, the comic parody “Romeo and Juliet… for Tears and Laughter,” proves once again that the Symi Theater continues to create with the same freshness, the same passion, and the same love that have characterized it from the very beginning of its journey.
One of the most famous love stories in world literature has been transformed by our fellow countryman Manolis Antonoglou into a delightful comedy full of misunderstandings, twists, and authentic Cretan humor.
Manolis Antonoglou did not limit himself to simply directing yet another production. His adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play into the Samos dialect is undoubtedly a small work of art in its own right.
This year’s production also stands out for its impeccable aesthetics. The sets and costumes by renowned set designer Michalis Sdoukos, in collaboration with Dimitris Kalamatas, and the choreography by Elli Paraskeva, have contributed to a high-caliber performance, as attested by the audience members who saw it in Rhodes.
