The Culture Department of the Municipality of Rhodes invites you on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. to the “Melina Merkouri” Medieval Moat Theater “Melina Merkouri” for a musical theater performance dedicated to the Castle of Rhodes and its history, titled “Building on the Past: The Castle of Rhodes.”
A spectacular blend of words and music. Three actors, an opera singer, and a chamber music ensemble engage in a dialogue on stage across seven acts—historical milestones in the history of the Castle of Rhodes.
In the play’s seven acts, through the texts by Spyros Syropoulos and Lefteris Drouvas and the original music by Theodoros Lembesis, the performers on stage will take us on a journey through a historical collage of the castle, from its origins to its present form, from the events that preceded its construction to the modern era, while also offering a glimpse into the future.
How people shaped the castle over the centuries, and how the castle shaped the people it housed. The vehicle for this narrative, of course, is art, in the form of storytelling and music. A contemporary performance narrated by the distinguished actor Yannis Vouros, directed by Melina Mascha and Lefteris Drouvas.
