The Municipality of Rhodes’ efforts to clean, clear, and restore streams located within and around the communities of the Municipal Unit of Southern Rhodes are continuing at a rapid pace.
The Municipality’s machinery is operating in areas where needs have been identified, with priority given to those requiring immediate attention. Work is currently underway and will continue in the coming period, as the machinery is scheduled to return to locations where additional work is needed.
Work has already been carried out in Arnitha, and subsequent work is planned for Apolakkia and Katavia, as well as at other locations where streams flow through or near settlements, with the aim of ensuring a smooth and unimpeded flow of water.
The work includes, where necessary, the removal of sediment, cleaning, and widening of the stream bed to restore the natural flow of water and minimize problems caused by sediment buildup. This will help better manage the consequences of severe weather events and heavy rainfall.
These efforts will continue in the coming period, with the Municipality’s machinery operating daily, in accordance with the needs and priorities identified in communities across the island.
Thomas Kostas, Deputy Mayor of the Southern Rhodes Municipal Unit, made the following statement:
“Prevention and the timely resolution of problems are a top priority for the municipal administration. Under the guidance of Mayor Alexandros Koliadis and in collaboration with municipal departments and the community presidents, we are identifying needs and taking action wherever necessary. We are consistently continuing our work in the communities of Southern Rhodes, with a particular focus on cleaning and clearing the streams to enhance the safety and protection of residents from severe weather events and heavy rainfall.”
