The Municipality of Rhodes is moving forward with the creation of the “Green Spaces and Urban Infrastructure Registry,” with the goal of managing public spaces more effectively and continuously improving them.
A specialized team has already begun mapping the city’s green spaces, as well as urban infrastructure in public areas. The data collected is entered into the specialized digital platform GREENSPACES, creating a comprehensive and continuously updated tool for the Municipality.
As part of this process, the following are recorded, among other things: trees, green spaces, flower beds, seating areas, streetlights, playgrounds, and other elements of urban infrastructure. This provides a comprehensive picture of the current state of public spaces and the needs that arise.
Of particular importance is the ability to monitor the condition and health of each plant, as well as the history of interventions and its management. At the same time, data on the condition of urban infrastructure are recorded to provide a clear picture of its maintenance, restoration, or replacement needs.
The creation of the Registry is an important tool for better planning of maintenance work and necessary interventions, faster problem resolution, and more rational use of available resources.
By utilizing modern digital tools, the Municipality of Rhodes is enhancing the planning and day-to-day management of public spaces, with an emphasis on safety, functionality, the protection of urban green spaces, and the creation of a higher-quality urban environment for residents and visitors.
At the same time, the recording and digital organization of data create a solid foundation for planning future interventions and the continuous improvement of the city’s public spaces.
Yiannis Mitsou, Deputy Mayor for the Environment, Green Spaces, and Urban Development, stated:
“In the Municipality of Rhodes, we are putting into practice a new approach to the management and improvement of public spaces. Through the ‘Register of Green Spaces and Urban Infrastructure’ and by utilizing the GREENSPACES digital platform, we are systematically cataloging the city’s green spaces and urban infrastructure, gaining for the first time a comprehensive picture of our needs and priorities. This is a significant initiative that enhances planning and makes municipal interventions more targeted and effective. The municipal administration led by Alexandros Kolias is investing in modern tools, better planning, and initiatives with measurable results. We want a greener, safer, and more functional city, with public spaces that meet the needs of residents and visitors alike. The Registry represents yet another step in the work we are carrying out to comprehensively improve daily life and quality of life in Rhodes.”
