The Municipality of Rhodes was represented at the 3rd Stakeholder Board Meeting of the European DIVERSIFY-CCAM project, which took place in Brussels from September 30 to October 1. The local government was represented by the municipal councilor in charge of Transportation, Stergos Papastergis, who shared the region’s experiences and needs in the discussion on the future of sustainable and automated mobility.
The two-day meeting was attended by project partners and external organizations from various European countries. The focus of the meeting was on exchanging experiences, evaluating results to date, and jointly formulating proposals for the development of Connected, Collaborative, and Automated Mobility Systems (CCAM) tailored to the actual needs of citizens. The Municipality of Rhodes focused on the specific challenges faced by an island and tourist destination, such as strong seasonality and increased traffic during the summer months.
Stergos Papastergis, the municipal councilor in charge of Transportation, stated: “The Municipality of Rhodes’ participation in DIVERSIFY-CCAM reaffirms our steadfast commitment to integrating Rhodes into European developments regarding modern and sustainable mobility. Our participation in European projects and cooperation networks is a key tool in this direction. At the same time, we are investing in outward-looking initiatives and a continuous understanding of future trends, so that Rhodes can keep pace with international developments, adapt to new challenges, and play a leading role in shaping a more modern, smart, and sustainable mobility model. The municipal administration led by Alexandros Kolias leverages new technologies and best European practices, transforming knowledge and experience into practical solutions that improve the quality of transportation and the quality of life on the island every day.”
