The Municipality of Rhodes is taking yet another significant step toward enhancing transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in public affairs by leveraging the capabilities of digital technology and artificial intelligence through the OpenCouncil platform (opencouncil.gr). As the first municipality in the Dodecanese to join the platform, it is investing in modern tools, enabling residents to follow the Municipal Council’s discussions and decisions in a simple, direct, and user-friendly way.
The partnership with OpenCouncil marks a new approach to keeping citizens informed. Through the platform opencouncil.gr/rhodes, residents can:
- Read brief summaries of each discussion topic and quickly find out what interests them.
- Watch video recordings of the meetings or listen to the audio recordings.
- Access the full transcripts of the meetings, with speaker and topic identifiers.
- Search for specific issues throughout the entire archive of City Council meetings.
- Explore, via an interactive map, topics that have been discussed and are related to areas of Rhodes.
At the same time, residents can sign up for free to receive OpenCouncil notifications at opencouncil.gr/rhodes/notifications. Every resident can select the topics that interest them and receive updates via WhatsApp or SMS when those topics are being discussed. In addition, through “Notis,” the AI-powered digital assistant, users can search for information and ask questions about issues that concern them.
Regarding the platform’s operation and use, OpenCouncil founder Christos Poriou will brief the members of the Rhodes City Council at the meeting to be held on Wednesday, October 14.
