A working meeting was held on Monday, October 12, at the Ministry of Environment and Energy between the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, responsible for Spatial Planning and Urban Planning, Marilena Soukouli-Viliali, and the Secretary General of the Technical Chamber of Greece, Antonis Giannikouris.
The discussion focused on key urban planning and spatial planning issues that affect the buildability of real estate, the utilization of public and private property, and the implementation of investments, with particular emphasis on the needs of island Greece.
A key topic was the designation and institutional recognition of the existing road network to ensure buildability in areas outside the urban plan. Mr. Giannikouris emphasized the need to expedite the registration procedures using uniform and objective rules, in order to eliminate legal uncertainty and facilitate mature investment projects.
At the same time, the meeting addressed the issue of pending matters regarding Category 5 unauthorized structures, with an emphasis on the possibility of including municipal and public properties in the program, in order to enable their utilization and the implementation of maintenance and restoration projects.
In addition, extensive reference was made to the Local Urban Planning Schemes (LUPs) being implemented by the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), as well as the overall progress of the three key projects, which also include the digitization of Building Services (YDOM) and the classification of the road network. As noted, the digitization of the Urban Planning Plans has already been completed, while the remaining projects are nearing completion.
The Deputy Minister responded positively to the TEE’s proposals, and it was agreed to explore ways to implement them within the framework of the ongoing institutional cooperation between the two organizations.
