The TAFI Convention 2026, which concluded in Rhodes on October 7, 2026.
In a landmark year for the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI), which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Federation’s annual event was held in Greece for the first time. It marked a significant step toward strengthening tourism ties between Greece and India, creating new opportunities for collaboration among professionals in both markets.
During the conference, which took place from October 4 to 7 and was attended by more than 300 representatives of Indian travel agencies, cultural and tourism ties were forged. At the same time, numerous B2B meetings took place, paving the way for new business partnerships, an increase in tourist arrivals, and the extension of the tourist season.
Memoranda of Understanding in Delphi and Rhodes
The conference kicked off in Delphi, where a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Federation and the Region of Central Greece, by Regional Governor Fani Spanos and TAFI President Abbas Moiz, in the presence of Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism and Culture Fani Papathoma. During their visit, the members were briefed on the region’s tourism offerings.
A significant milestone of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between TAFI and the Region of South Aegean, by Regional Governor George Hatzimarkos and the president of TAFI, strengthening the prospects for strategic cooperation and further promoting the South Aegean in the Indian market.
Rhodes emerged as a leading destination, as participants experienced firsthand the island’s tourism infrastructure, services, and hospitality, while they also had a positive experience with the authentic Indian cuisine that was served. The WOTF Group played a decisive role in attracting and organizing the conference, with the aim of enhancing Rhodes’ international profile.
The opening ceremony was attended, among others, by Christos Michalakis, Deputy Regional Governor for Strategic Planning of the Region of South Aegean. The event was supported by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the Region of South Aegean, Eurobank, AEGEAN, and IndiGo.
The Prospects of the Indian Tourism Market
With 35 million millionaires and 100 million Indians expected to travel by 2030, India represents a market with significant potential for high-income tourism. Younger generations and travelers with greater purchasing power are seeking experiences that combine culture, leisure, gastronomy, and personalized services. Of particular interest are luxury tourism, destination weddings, incentive travel, and family vacations.
Greece is seeking a share of this expanding market by capitalizing on its combination of cultural heritage, island scenery, and hospitality through the development of targeted tourism products.
WOTF Group Managing Director Nikolaos Kavaliaros stated: “The TAFI conference in Rhodes was a significant milestone in strengthening tourism ties between Greece and India. For us at WOTF, who worked systematically to bring this conference to Rhodes, the greatest success is that we managed to put the island on India’s tourism map. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between TAFI and the Region of South Aegean, the participation of more than 300 Indian travel agencies, and the numerous B2B meetings create significant prospects for growth. At the same time, we have demonstrated that we can meet the demands of the Indian market, from tourism infrastructure to authentic Indian cuisine. For WOTF, this conference is not the end of an effort, but the beginning of a strategic partnership that we aim to transform into real tourism growth for Rhodes and Greece.”
