At the age of 46, the runner from Rhodes and active member of the “Rhodian Runners” Athletic Club, Evangelos Fasoulas, took the big leap abroad, representing his island in Palma, Majorca. There, he finished the 10-kilometer race with a time of 58:17, taking a decisive step forward in his participation in an international athletic event.
The Story of a Major Change
It all began in the spring of 2025. After a period of inactivity, Evangelos decided to return to a regular exercise routine. With a key person by his side—to whom he is deeply grateful—he began running with a group.
His training was built up step by step, starting on the treadmill at the gym and combining running with strength training and a balanced diet, setting a smaller goal each time: “To run two kilometers nonstop and then increase the distance,” he recalls. At the same time, out of respect for his body, he established a strict routine of preventive medical checkups every six months.
Joining the Rhodian Runners and the TUI Mediterranean Marathon League
His involvement with the sport brought him into contact with the running community. By listening to advice and exchanging views, he became a member of the Rodios Runners Athletic Club. His first major milestone was the Rhodes Half Marathon, which he successfully completed thanks to his intensive training.
His next goal was the TUI Mediterranean Marathon League (MML), an event that combines sports, entertainment, and vacation in four Mediterranean cities: Paphos, Rhodes, Palma, and Majorca.
The Majorca Experience
Speaking about his participation in the Majorca race, Evangelos Fasoulas said: “Due to the huge demand, I managed to secure a spot in the 10-kilometer race. The organization in Palma left me with the best impressions. The race “headquarters” was set up impeccably at Parc de la Mar, right below the city’s imposing cathedral. In a huge, perfectly organized area, participants picked up their race numbers at designated booths, while the presence of major sportswear companies stole the show, creating a festive, international atmosphere.”
As noted, a useful piece of information for future runners is that participation in the League (MML) remains valid, whether one chooses the 10-, 21-, or 42-kilometer race. With a time of 58:17 and a valuable experience under his belt, Evangelos Fasoulas continues his racing career.
