The “Food Bank” of the Rhodes Municipal Welfare Organization continues to consistently open its doors to the community and is delighted to welcome Scouts from various regions of Greece this summer, highlighting the importance of social service and volunteerism.
Following the visit by the 16th Pefki Scout Troop of Thessaloniki, the Center was delighted to host the 2nd Patras Scout Troop on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
As part of their community service, the members of the Troop actively participated in preparing and serving that day’s meal, following the instructions of the cook and the assistant cook. At the same time, they helped prepare the week’s meals by chopping vegetables and making stuffed vegetables for the program’s beneficiaries.
During their visit, they were briefed by the Deputy Director of Social Services and the Social Worker – Coordinator of the Food Distribution Center about the program’s operations, the beneficiaries it serves, and the criteria required for their enrollment and assistance.
This was followed by a tour of the facility’s premises, during which a particularly interesting discussion took place regarding how similar food distribution centers operate in the Patras area. The exchange of experiences and best practices was a significant and meaningful aspect of the meeting.
The presence of young people at the Food Distribution Center, their genuine willingness to help, and their sensitivity to the needs of society fill us all with optimism and hope.
Volunteerism, solidarity, and the active participation of young people are a valuable legacy for the future and demonstrate that, through small acts of service, we can all contribute to creating a society with more humanity, solidarity, and respect.
Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Organization Savvina Papageorgiou, the Board of Directors of the Food Bank, the Management, and the employees of the Food Bank extend their warmest thanks to the 2nd Patras Scout Troop for their presence and substantial contribution, and wish the members of the troop continued successin their activities.
