An online working meeting was held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, between the Executive Committee (EC) of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) in the Dodecanese, the TEE’s Kalymnos Standing Committee, and the members of the Kalymnos Architecture Council (AC). The main focus of the meeting was the optimal functioning of the council as well as reducing the waiting time for the review of issues.

During the meeting, it was viewed as a very positive development that, although the initial composition established by the Decentralized Administration of the Aegean on September 4,2026 provided for a single SA for the Regional Units of Kos and Kalymnos—a situation that, had it remained in effect, would have caused significant disruptions— but following coordinated efforts, an amendment was made on September 17, 2026, and separate SA bodies were established for the Regional Units of Kos and Kalymnos.

This meeting is part of the broader framework of scheduled meetings between the Executive Committee and all the Architectural Councils of the Dodecanese (Rhodes, Kos, and Kalymnos). The goal of this initiative is to facilitate direct communication between the Executive Committee and the members of these bodies, to identify the practical challenges they face, and to collaboratively find solutions. The smooth and effective operation of the Professional Chambers is of paramount importance not only for the practice of the engineering profession but also for the broader development of our region, given that their expert opinion is a fundamental prerequisite for the issuance of the majority of building permits.

During the meeting, an extremely productive dialogue took place among all attendees, and the following points, among others, were agreed upon:

  • Every effort will be made to reduce the waiting time for the review of applications, with the goal of drastically reducing the number of pending applications by the end of 2026.
  • The Kalymnos Engineering Office will inform engineers working in Kalymnos, Leros, Patmos, Astypalaia, Lipsi, and Agathonisi regarding issues related to the completeness of applications as well as the operating procedures of the SA, with the aim of fostering more effective cooperation among all parties involved.
  • The Dodecanese Technical Chamber will examine data regarding the licensing of water reservoirs, given the water shortages facing our islands.

All participants in the meeting pledged to make every possible effort to improve the current operational status of the Kalymnos Water Supply System. It was also agreed that a new joint meeting would be held early next year to review the current situation and assess progress.

Representing the Executive Committee of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) for the Dodecanese was President Maria Papandreou; representing the Standing Committee of the TEE for Kalymnos was President Sakellarios – Prodromos Tsikouris, and for the Kalymnos Regional Council, Chairwoman Paraskevi Doukissi.
