The Region of South Aegean, in collaboration with Open Farm, is launching the new initiative “South Aegean Open Farm Days 2026” and extends an invitation to the Regional Education Directorates, teachers, Parent-Teacher Associations, and school communities in the Cyclades and the Dodecanese to organize educational field trips.
From October 19 to 25, 2026, farms, producers, and processing facilities on the islands of the South Aegean will welcome students and teachers. Through organized visits, guided tours, workshops, and hands-on activities, students will have the opportunity to learn firsthand about:
- The crops and traditional products of each island (honey, cheese, wine, olive oil, herbs, fruits, vegetables).
- Local producers and the traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation.
- The methods of food production and processing.
- The relationship between agriculture and the island landscape, biodiversity, and natural resources.
- The connection between production and nutrition, gastronomy, culture, and sustainable development.
The initiative is part of the Region of South Aegean’s strategy to link primary production with education and tourism, while simultaneously strengthening the region’s bid to become the 2028 World Gastronomy Region.
The participating schools and available activities are presented on the respective pages of the networks for the Cyclades and the Dodecanese, which are continuously updated. Interested schools can contact us at hello@openfarm.gr.
