The Archangelos Women’s Association “Artemis” on Sunday, July 19, 2026, the eve of the feast of the Prophet Elijah. This is the first time a stargazing night has been held in Archangelos, offering a unique experience for young and old alike.
Hike up the mountain and stargazing
The event will begin in the afternoon with a group hike up Mount Prophet Elias. The meeting point for participants has been set at the old 5×5 soccer field at 6:30 p.m..
Upon arrival at the summit, the main event will be held in the courtyard of the Monastery of Prophet Elias, starting at 9:00 p.m..
The program for the talk and stargazing session
The speaker for the evening will be amateur astronomer Stratos Kufos. During his presentation, the audience will have the opportunity to:

Learn about archaeoastronomy and how it relates to the island of Rhodes.

Learn about the work of ancient Greek astronomers and the reasons why our ancestors studied the sky.

To identify the most well-known summer constellations of the northern hemisphere and discover their connection to mythology.

Learn practical ways to orient oneself in the sky without using a compass.
After the talk, attendees will observe celestial objects through a portable telescope from the observatory “Eudimos”. The event will conclude with an open discussion, during which Mr. Kufos will answer questions from the audience.
Instructions for Participants
To ensure a safe and comfortable hike up the mountain, the organizers recommend that participants wear appropriate footwear (athletic or hiking shoes) and to carry water.
