There is strong interest from filmmakers and film production companies in participating in the 1st Rhodes Climate Film Festival (RCFF), which will take place in Rhodes from September 21 to 23, 2026, in Mandraki, at an open-air cinema set against the backdrop of the Agios Nikolaos lighthouse.
Films have already been submitted from Greece, Spain, France, and Iran, with themes that directly or indirectly address the natural environment, humanity’s relationship with nature, and the struggles of adapting to an ever-changing landscape. The climate crisis serves both as a springboard for inspiration and as a symbol through which society, culture, and the new structural framework of the human psyche are reexamined.
Whether fiction or documentary, each film serves as a “catalog of capabilities,” as they are revealed one by one while the challenges of adaptation become increasingly demanding.
Film submissions will remain open until September 6, 2026.
The program of the Rhodes Climate Film Festival will be complemented by master classes led by leading theorists of the Seventh Art.
The official opening of the Festival will be preceded, from September 16 to 19, by three screenings on Symi, Halki, and Rhodes of the film “Ocean with David Attenborough.” The screenings will take place in collaboration with the Cyclades Preservation Fund and ELKETHE / Rhodes Hydrobiological Station.
The Rhodes Climate Film Festival is organized by the environmental organization “For Nature / Common Nature” and is part of the events accompanying this year’s Tourism in Climate Crisis Forum (TCC Forum 2026).These events are being held in collaboration with the Municipality of Rhodes and the Region of South Aegean, with support from: the Chamber of Commerce, the Rhodes Hoteliers Association, the Dodecanese Travel Agencies Association, and the Rhodes Hotel Managers Association.
