The implementation of the Aegean Skills training programs continues with particularly positive results, a major initiative of the Region of South Aegean in collaboration with the University of the Aegean, through the Center for Training and Lifelong Learning (KEDIVIM).

Throughout July, seven training seminars were either completed or are currently underway, with a total of 250 residents from the Cyclades and the Dodecanese participating.

Participants had the opportunity to attend free, modern educational programs, both online and in person, acquiring new knowledge and skills in areas that meet the needs of modern society and the job market.

The enthusiastic response from island residents confirms the importance and momentum of the initiative, which has already seen significant participation since its launch.

In total, enrollment in the Aegean Skills programs is approaching 1,200 participants, while more than 55 training programs have been implemented, are currently underway, or are scheduled throughout the Region of South Aegean.

The Aegean Skills program covers a wide range of topics, such as digital skills, education, communication, entrepreneurship, tourism and hospitality, creative expression, culture, traditional arts, and modern educational practices, linking knowledge to the needs of citizens and the local community.

The in-person program “The Art of Pebble Painting”, which took place in Kattavia, Rhodes, was particularly successful.

The program gave participants the opportunity to discover a unique form of traditional art, which is an important part of the cultural heritage of Rhodes and our islands. At the same time, it highlighted the connection between contemporary education and local history, tradition, and creative expression.

Furthermore, during July, the following programs were implemented or are ongoing:

“First Aid”, which provides useful knowledge and practical skills for dealing with emergencies.

“Creative Writing and Digital Storytelling”, which leverages creative expression and modern digital tools as means of communication, learning, and skill development.

“Digital Classroom Tools: Utilizing Interactive Whiteboards”, which enhances digital skills and the use of technology in the educational environment.

“Mindfulness”, the new thematic module added to the Aegean Skills program, aimed at enhancing self-awareness, personal development, and better management of daily life.

Activities Continue in August

The Aegean Skills training activities continue in August, with new programs and new training cycles, enabling even more residents of the Cyclades and the Dodecanese to participate free of charge in modern educational activities.

The following programs have already been scheduled for August:

  • “Digital Classroom Tools: Utilizing Interactive Whiteboards” – 6th cycle, aimed at strengthening digital skills and utilizing modern technological tools in the educational process.
  • “First Aid: Immediate Response to Emergencies” – 10th cycle, a program that provides useful and practical knowledge for effectively handling emergencies.
  • “Organization and Operational Management of Tourist Accommodations” – 3rd cycle, a program that addresses the needs of the tourism industry and enhances the skills of professionals and employees in the hospitality sector.
  • “The Art of Pebble Art” at the Asclepieion, continuing to highlight local cultural heritage through experiential education and an introduction to a unique traditional art form.

At the same time, planning has already begun for the new series of activities this fall, featuring new themes and more opportunities for residents of the South Aegean to participate.

The continuation of these activities throughout the summer confirms the strong public response and the steadfast commitment of the Region of South Aegean and the University of the Aegean to creating new opportunities for learning and skill development for the islands’ residents.

All programs are offered free of charge and are intended exclusively for residents of the Region of South Aegean, namely the Cyclades and the Dodecanese.

Upon completion of each program, a Certificate of Participation from the University of the Aegean is awarded.

The collaboration between the Region of South Aegean and the University of the Aegean continues to serve as an essential mechanism for promoting lifelong learning, offering island residents access to modern educational opportunities and new prospects for personal and professional development.
