With the publication in the Government Gazette (Law 5321, Government Gazette 114/A/ July 20, 2026) of the recently enacted supplementary provisions of the new Local Government Code, the Governor of the Region of South Aegean, George Hatzimarkos, announces the new administrative structure of the Regional Authority, which is designed with a view to ensuring administrative continuity, enhancing efficiency, and establishing a strong presence of the Region on every island by making full use of its entire staff
Under the new administrative structure, specific responsibilities are assigned to all members of the Regional Authority without exception. This reflects Governor George Hatzimarkos’s long-standing commitment to making full use of the political group’s entire human resources by assigning responsibilities and areas of action to each of its members.
This approach reflects the specific needs and complex challenges of the country’s largest multi-island region, where the geographical dispersion and the distinct needs and characteristics of each island require a broad distribution of responsibilities, a constant presence, and close cooperation.
Specifically, the new structure of the Regional Authority is organized by Regional Unit (RU) as follows:
- Apostolos Asprakis, son of Georgios, Deputy Regional Governor
- Georgios Leontaritis, son of Evangelos, Deputy Regional Governor of the Cyclades
