On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, the Food Distribution Center of the Rhodes Municipal Welfare Organization was pleased to welcome the 16th Pefka Scouts Group of Thessaloniki, which was in Rhodes for a summer camp from July 10 to 18, 2026.
As part of the community service activities carried out by the Troop’s Scout Community, its members visited the facility and actively participated in its daily operations, providing valuable volunteer work.
Specifically, most members helped prepare the meals distributed daily to our economically vulnerable fellow citizens by chopping vegetables, portioning out the food, and performing other essential kitchen tasks. The remaining members volunteered their services in the facility’s outdoor area, cleaning the grounds surrounding the soup kitchen.
During their visit, the members of the organization were briefed by the Deputy Director of Social Services, the social worker, and the facility’s cooks about the soup kitchen’s operations and its daily role in supporting our vulnerable fellow citizens. Those in attendance expressed their interest, asked questions about the facility’s work, and voiced their enthusiasm for the organization, its contributions, and the social impact of the service.
This visit was particularly significant, as it was the first time a Scout troop from outside Rhodes had volunteered to participate in the activities of the Food Bank. The presence and contributions of these young people are living proof that volunteerism, solidarity, and social awareness know no geographical boundaries.
Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Organization Savvina Papageorgiou, the Board of Directors of the Food Bank, the Management, and the employees of the Food Bank express their heartfelt thanks to the 16th Pefka System of Thessaloniki for their invaluable contribution and wish its members to continuecontinue to serve as a model of social service and volunteerism for the younger generation.
