Once again, faithful to its identity and artistic vision, the DLR#12 International Contemporary Dance Festival of Rhodes returns to meet its audience. On 31 August, the RODON Cinema-Theatre opens its doors to welcome the people of Rhodes. From 31 August to 8 September, audiences and visitors to the island will have the opportunity to experience our artistic performances, actions and encounters.
Co-organised and supported by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Rhodes, and held under the auspices and with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, this year’s festival unfolds around the theme “Frequencies from Within”, a theme that “dances within” energetic frequencies.
DLR#12 – Frequencies from Within moves between the space of a breath and a state of suspended movement, inviting—and challenging—us to experience with body and mind the “in-between time”, Time in suspension.
We are not speaking of the abolition of time, but of a universal expansion of it: time in the magical moment of daydreaming, of pursuing perfection, of kinetic precision, but also of the “out-of-body” experience of time. In this infinitesimal magical moment, the movement to come is conceived—the “miracle” of the release of energy—which, through minimal temporal vibrations, becomes an artistic result, an action and the realisation of an artistic intention. We find ourselves in that space-time where the “body” does not yet exist.
Our aim is the encounter of 1 with 2, as within the number 12, the one searches for the two. The merging of the “I” with the expanded “You”. Within this micro-structure of time, the contemporary urban environment contrasts with—and expands alongside—the medieval, chivalric past of an island that is so small within the universe, yet receives such a massive influx of people today.
This year, the inspiration behind the DLR#12 International Contemporary Dance Festival is suspension: the revelation of the One within zero, the energetic imprint of Two at the moment when the pulse of dance swells like a vein, like an energy wave travelling along the curves of the dancer’s body.
Welcome once again to suspended movement–stillness.
No ground. No rest…
The DLR#12 International Dance Festival in Rhodes and the Dodecanese brings together dancers from across Greece and Europe, alongside acclaimed dance companies, complete productions and award-winning works. It is a cultural event and an established institution of culture. A festival in the heart of the city, an event that brings us face to face with our dream, one step higher, and every year higher still. With vision and dedication, we flood the island with dance, movement, passion and Art.
