A working meeting was held on Friday, October 2, at the offices of the Rhodes Medical Association, with the aim of exploring and establishing a structured framework for cooperation to improve health care for children housed at the Dodecanese Child Protection Branch.
The meeting was attended by the President of the Rhodes Medical Association, Marios Klonaris, the Secretary General, Marios Georganas, the co-founder of the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) “Nisos Kineo,” Stavros Hatzipavlis, and the scientific collaborator of the NKE, Evi Minatsi. During the meeting, the work of the NKE “Nisos Kineo” was presented, which, for the past year, has maintained a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Dodecanese Child Protection Branch to provide support services focused on the psycho-emotional, social development, and education of children.
In this context, the Rhodes Medical Association’s contribution to the creation of an organized network of volunteer physicians from various specialties was discussed. This network will draw on the scientific knowledge and professional experience of the volunteer physicians to support the health needs of the children at the Annex.
The proposed initiative will focus on two main areas:
- Prevention and health promotion: Conducting the necessary annual preventive medical checkups, tailored to the needs and age of each child.
- Early intervention for health issues: Providing medical assessment, monitoring, and treatment by utilizing the appropriate medical specialties and coordinating with the relevant health services.
This approach aims to establish a stable and organized framework for health support that integrates prevention, early detection, monitoring, and continuity of care for children under child protection services.
The President of the Rhodes Medical Association is set to brief the Board of Directors on this initiative, so that it may be discussed and a decision made in accordance with established procedures. The primary goal remains to ensure that all children at the Annex have access to the necessary health services in a meaningful, timely, organized, and inclusive manner.
