Roma students in Rhodes welcomed the new school year with a special social support and creative activities program. The initiative was carried out by the Roma Branch of the Community Center of the Department of Social Policy and Health of the Municipality of Rhodes, with the aim of preventing social exclusion and supporting the children’s educational progress.
As part of the initiative, which took place in the courtyard of the Rodini hall, staff members of the Branch, in collaboration with the Deputy Mayor for Social Policy, Solidarity, Equality, and Preschool Education, Savvina Papageorgiou, distributed school backpacks and essential school supplies to students attending schools on the island.
The event featured creative and artistic activities. The children had the opportunity to engage in painting and arts and crafts, making colorful paper balloons and handmade bookmarks for their books. The event concluded with a light snack served to all the children.
The company “Sklavenitis S.A.” and the Department of Primary Education (DPE) at the University of the Aegean played a decisive role in making this initiative a reality, by providing school supplies for elementary and middle school students, as well as DERMAE S.A., which provided the venue and arranged for the snacks to be served.
