Statement by the Mayor of Rhodes, Mr. Alexandros Koliadis:
“When we said that the voice of the citizen would be heard in this municipal administration, we meant it.
We are launching the first nine ‘Neighborhood Councils’ in the city of Rhodes, so that every neighborhood can have its own institutional voice on everyday issues.
From Analipsi and Rodini to Agios Nikolaos and the city center, permanent residents will play an active role in prioritizing the needs and priorities of their neighborhood.
Because no office and no administration knows a neighborhood’s problems better than the people who live there.
A big thank you to our fellow citizens who signed up to participate. Your response is the best guarantee that this initiative will be sustainable and effective.
For bringing this initiative to fruition, I would like to thank Savvina Papageorgiou, former deputy mayor of the Municipality of Rhodes, who laid the groundwork, and the current Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Rhodes, Yiannis Mitsou, who completed the process and is now moving forward with its implementation.
In the coming days, we’ll hold our first introductory meeting with the Council members so we can set our goals and get to work.
The neighborhood is our home. And we make decisions about it together.”
