The French Cultural Center in Rhodes, located on Ippoton Street in the Medieval City, is hosting the contemporary ceramics exhibition “Fissures of Memory,” featuring works by French artist Elisa Bodet and Greek artist Dimitris Antonopoulos. This exhibition marks the conclusion of the 8th Contemporary Ceramics Artist-in-Residence Program for 2026. The opening will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., in the presence of the artists and Angie Nikolari, Deputy Cultural Attaché of the French Institute in Greece.

The exhibition will remain open to the public through Sunday, November 8, 2026, daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with both artists in attendance.

The exhibition “Fissures of Memory”

The exhibition brings together two distinct artistic approaches, united by a common focus on the relationship between matter and memory, time, and presence.

Elisa Bodet, who lives and works in Marseille, creates sculptural forms at the intersection of decoration and narrative. Her artistic research focuses on decoration as a surface that holds fragmentary memories and tells stories through its traces. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Besançon, she continued her artistic studies at the Athens School of Fine Arts and trained in Longwy enamel techniques.

Dimitris Antonopoulos, who lives and works in Athens, explores through sculpture and ceramics the relationship between matter and memory, decomposition and transformation. He experiments with materials and processes that leave traces, imprints, and voids, examining how matter changes over time and how presence is maintained even through absence. She is a graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts and develops a visual art practice that explores what remains and what is lost through the transformations of matter.

The Artist Residency

The two-month artist residency is research-oriented, aiming to connect the traditional ceramics of Rhodes with contemporary ceramic art. The two artists were selected from a large number of candidates by the Selection Committee of the French Institute of Greece.

The program is being held for the eighth consecutive year and is co-organized by the Region of South Aegean and the French Institute of Greece, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and the French Consulate in Rhodes. The program coordinator is Elpiniki Gelagioti.
