The “Magical Lantern” installation is a site-specific visual and sound installation inspired by Plato’s allegory of the cave and the history of early optical devices. In the vaulted space of the Agios Georgios Bastion in the Medieval City of Rhodes, light and shadow activate a series of simple projection mechanisms and handmade forms, exploring representation as a process of constructing the world through images and representational systems. Shadows are transformed through movement and spatial arrangement, composing an open narrative that evolves over time. Through symbolism and codes, the image functions as an active mechanism that produces and distorts reality. Systems of representation are exposed and deconstructed, revealing their conventions.
The installation is complemented by live sound performances, creating a unified, multisensory environment where image and sound coexist and interact in real time.
The event is offered free of charge by the Ministry of Culture. Advance registration is required.
