The outdoor social dancing nights hosted by Swingin’ Rhodes are back! You’ll find us in the beautiful outdoor area of Rodini Park. Starting Wednesday, June 10, and every Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. And for those who want to take their first steps in Lindy Hop, there will be a beginner’s class at 8:00 p.m.! So, if you want to dance with us or just spend an evening to the sounds of 1930s swing music, we’re waiting for you! Bring water, drinks, and whatever snacks you’d like, and join us at the Wednesday Night Hop for a special evening!
The Swingin’ Rhodes is a group in Rhodes dedicated to promoting Lindy Hop and swing dances.
Lindy Hop is the most popular—and spectacular—of the Swing/Jazz dance family.
It is one of the earliest partner dances in this family, which is why it’s considered the “authentic” swing dance. It originated and developed in America in the African American neighborhoods of Harlem, New York, during the golden age of swing music.
This dance evolved alongside swing music from the late 1920s through the late 1940s, eventually giving way to bebop, rhythm & blues, and rock ’n’ roll.
Characteristic features of Lindy Hop include its strong rhythm and improvisation to the sound of jazz music.
