A series of three experiential workshops, focusing on memory, human relationships, personal worth, and the power of human connection, was completed at the Agios Ioannis Senior Citizens’ Center in the Municipality of Rhodes, as part of “Cinematherapy by EKKOMED,” a program of the Hellenic Center for Cinema, Audiovisual Media and Creation – EKKOMED.

The event took place on July 10, August 7, and September 7, 2026, at the Senior Citizens’ Center, with the participation of 50 members and beneficiaries. The workshops were coordinated by Denise Nikolakou, a psychotherapist specializing in the Integrative Approach and Director of the Cinematherapy by EKKOMED program.

The sessions were based on selected cinematic narratives, which served as a starting point for discussion, personal reflection, and the sharing of experiences. The series was designed to take participants on a journey from personal memories to relationships and, ultimately, to the recognition of personal worth.

The first session, “The Stories We Carry: Memories, Resilience, and the Power of Life,” focused on the experiences and memories that shape our personal stories. Participants reflected on significant milestones in their lives, the difficulties they faced, and their personal sources of strength and resilience.

The second session, “Every Relationship, a Life Story: We Share, We Connect, We Grow,” was dedicated to human relationships and the people who leave their mark on our lives. Through film stories and experiential exercises, participants shared thoughts and experiences about friendship, family, giving, solidarity, and gratitude.

The third workshop, “Can You See Me? Can you hear me? Counting: Our worth knows no age,” marked the conclusion of the series and focused on the human need to feel seen, heard, and recognized. Through cinematic storytelling and experiential activities, participants explored their personal worth, their place in relationships and the community, as well as what they continue to offer to those around them. The session concluded with a positive mirroring exercise, through which members highlighted qualities and characteristics they appreciate in one another.

The quarterly Cinematherapy by EKKOMED program gave KAPI members the opportunity to participate in a unique group experience, in which cinema served as a bridge for communication and personal expression. The participants did not merely share stories. They shared memories, recognized common experiences, listened to and were heard, and reflected on what continues to give meaning and value to their lives.
