With a focus on people, prevention, and the protection of human life, the Department of Social Policy and Health of the Municipality of Rhodes is moving forward with the creation of a Registry of Vulnerable Groups of Citizens, as part of the implementation of the measure for the organized preventive evacuation of citizens in cases of emergencies and natural disasters.
This initiative is being implemented in accordance with the guidelines of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection (No. A1161/April 18, 2023, General Secretariat for Civil Protection Circular) and serves as an important operational planning tool, aimed at the timely notification, alert, and support our fellow citizens who may require special care in the event that the organized evacuation mechanism is activated.
Individuals belonging to vulnerable population groups—such as people with disabilities, those with mobility, sensory, or other impairments, people with increased support needs, senior citizens, as well as citizens who lack the necessary support network to ensure their safe mobility.
The purpose of this registry is to improve the organization of services provided by the Municipality of Rhodes and the relevant agencies (Fire Department, Hellenic Police, National Ambulance Service, Coast Guard, Civil Protection, etc.), so that in an emergency there is a clear picture of citizens’ needs and their safe transportation can be planned using the appropriate means, such as a passenger vehicle, special transport vehicle, or ambulance, where required.
Registration in the Registry is carried out by the individual concerned or by a legal or specially authorized representative and/or personal assistant or immediate family member. The following information is required for registration in the Registry:
- contact information,
- home address,
- vulnerability or disability category (where applicable),
- any special support needs,
- contact information for a personal assistant or immediate family member,
- the appropriate means of transportation that may be required in the event of evacuation.
Participation in the Registry is voluntary and requires the written consent of the individuals concerned. All data collected will be handled with strict confidentiality, in accordance with applicable data protection laws, and will not be made public.
The person registeredin the Registry must notify the Department of Public Health Protection and Promotion of any change in address, contact information, or support needs. The data will be retained for as long as a person remains registered in the Registry, the specific civil protection purpose continues to exist, and consent has not been revoked.
