The Region of South Aegean is taking steps to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the Counseling and Support Center for Women Victims of Violence in Rhodes through the end of 2029, significantly boosting funding for the facility through resources from the “South Aegean” Regional Program 2021–2027.
By decision of the Regional Governor of the South Aegean, George Hatzimarkos, the second amendment to the project “Operation of the Counseling Support Center for Women Victims of Violence in Rhodes,” which increases the total public expenditure from 450,000.00 euros to 926,000.00 euros, securing additional funding of 476,000.00 euros and extending the center’s operation until December 31, 2029.
This decision is part of the Region of South Aegean’s consistent policy to utilize European funds not only as a tool for infrastructure development but also as a means of strengthening social cohesion, equality, and the protection of our most vulnerable fellow citizens, sending the message that no fellow citizen is left alone to face difficulties.
This is an initiative of particular social significance, as addressing gender-based violence goes beyond merely reporting and suppressing it. It requires ongoing, organized, and accessible support services that offer women the opportunity to regain their autonomy, protect their rights, and build a life free from fear and violence.
The Rhodes Counseling Center provides free psychosocial and legal support services, employment promotion initiatives, as well as information, awareness-raising, and networking services with local agencies and organizations.
Special attention is given to women facing multiple forms of discrimination or additional social challenges, such as migrant women, refugee women, women with disabilities, unemployed women, and heads of single-parent families.
The Center is staffed by specialized professional and administrative personnel, ensuring a comprehensive framework of counseling and support.
The project “Operation of the Rhodes Counseling and Support Center for Women Victims of Violence” is part of the Priority “Human Resources and Social Inclusion” of the “South Aegean” Program 2021–2027 and is co-financed by the European Social Fund.
The beneficiary is the Municipality of Rhodes, which is responsible for operating the Counseling Center, while the Region of South Aegean ensures its continued funding.
