With religious reverence and in the presence of representatives from the political and medical communities, as well as dozens of the faithful, the celebration of the Synaxis of the Holy Physicians took place on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Mandraki.
His Eminence Metropolitan Kyrillos of Rhodes presided over the Divine Liturgy; in his homily, he referred to the spiritual example set by the Holy Physicians, the mission of healthcare providers, and the broader contributions of the Rhodes Medical Association, offering warm wishes for the continuation of their work.
In attendance at the event were Dodecanese Members of Parliament Yiannis Pappas and Manos Konsolas, the Deputy Mayor of Rhodes, Thomas Sotrillis, as well as a large number of doctors and parishioners.
The commemorative address for the day was delivered by the president of the Rhodes Medical Association, Marios Klonaris, who highlighted the timeless value of the connection between medical science and humanity, ethical responsibility, and respect for human dignity.
At the same time, Mr. Klonaris made special mention of the challenges facing modern medicine, staff shortages, and the increased needs of island healthcare. He underscored the importance of close collaboration among all healthcare professionals, including nurses and EKAB crews, for the effective protection of human life.
Furthermore, special emphasis was placed on Rhodes’ role as a key healthcare hub for the entire Dodecanese archipelago. It was noted that the great geographical distances, the increased need for patient transport, and the unique conditions of island life make the daily work of healthcare professionals even more demanding.
This year’s celebration also coincided with the Pan-Karpathian commemoration of the 85th anniversary of the swearing-in ceremony of the Dodecanese Volunteers Regiment (1941–2026), lending the day special historical significance and serving as a reminder of the value of service, self-sacrifice, and faith in freedom.
The Rhodes Medical Association continues to honor the memory of the Holy Physicians, steadfastly upholding the values of scientific knowledge, humanity, social responsibility, and the protection of human life.
