The scientific community is looking toward the future and the dynamic evolution of popular culture. The organizing and scientific committees are pleased to announce the international conference titled “Digital Folklore 2.0: Folk Culture in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” The conference will take place from October 16 to 17, 2026, in Rhodes, and will conclude on October 18, 2026, on the island of Halki.
This academic conference is co-organized by the Laboratory of Language, Folklore, and Literature and the Laboratory of Mathematics, Their Didactics & Multimedia of the Department of Primary Education at the University of the Aegean, in collaboration with the Rhodes Music School.
Five years after the first digital conference in 2021, the academic dialogue returns as an in-person event, focusing on rapid technological developments. The conference’s fundamental theoretical premise is that folk culture neither declines nor opposes technology, but rather adapts, evolves, and incorporates new media. Artificial intelligence and the digital world do not distance people from their cultural roots, but rather transform them into new environments for expression, creativity, and the production of contemporary culture.
The conference is held under the auspices of the Ministries of Culture, Digital Governance, and the General Secretariat for the Aegean and Island Policy. In addition, it is co-organized with the Region of South Aegean, the Municipality of Rhodes, the Municipality of Chalki, and the Chamber of Commerce of Dodecanese.
